Arthritis develops but fails to resolve during inhibition of cyclooxygenase 2 [COX-2] in a murine model of Lyme disease – Source: Arthritis and Rheumatism, Apr 25, 2008
COX-2 is an enzyme responsible for inflammation and pain. COX-2 inhibitor products include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin or ibuprofen. This study suggests COX-2 inhibitors may also inhibit the ‘signaling molecules’ that resolve inflammation. These eicosanoids are produced by oxygenation of the omega-3 fatty acid EPA, found in fish oil. [Source: Arthritis and Rheumatism, Apr 25, 2008] |
