With the belief that every person’s healing journey is unique, the Mind Body Spirit Clinic in Minnesota combines a unique blend of conventional and complementary therapies to promote health and well being.
Part of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine’s Center of Spirituality and Healing, the clinic’s primary mission is to integrate biomedical, complementary, cross-cultural, and the spiritual aspects of care.
The clinic is a first-time collaboration between Fairview Health Services and the Center for Spirituality and Healing. Patients work in partnership with physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, psychologists, energy workers, acupuncturists, among many others to achieve their health goals.
"We are excited to bring together different healing perspectives to serve our patients better," says clinic medical director Sharon Norling, M.D. "With our capabilities for research and training at the university and a strong demand from the community for healing alternatives, we have a very unique opportunity."
The clinic provides such services as:
* Health and wellness therapies
* Traditional Chinese medicine
* Spiritual care
* Mind-body therapies
* Nutritional/herbal consultation
* Workshops and support groups
Therapy offered by the clinic has included massage, Reiki (energy healing), acupuncture, hypnosis, and nutritional consultation. One-on-one and group settings are available.
Service offerings are based on consumer demand, documented efficacy and low patient risk, according to Shannon Lorbiecki, administrative director for the program. All providers are credentialed through Fairview. "Our approach is conservative," Lorbiecki says.
The staff will conduct research on outcomes, utilization, and cost effectiveness of care.
